Essure is a non-surgical permanent birth control method designed to prevent pregnancy by creating a blockage in the fallopian tubes. Introduced in 2001 as a less invasive alternative to surgical sterilization, such as tubal ligation, as it did not require general anesthesia or incisions and was inserted vaginally. Thousands of women across the EU opted for this permanent contraception method.
